Eswary Sriram is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher whose journey in this classical art form began at the tender age of five. Encouraged by her parents, she was initiated into Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Indira Manickam in Malaysia. At the age of ten, she performed her Salangai Poojai, marking the early milestones of a lifelong dedication to the arts.
With an unwavering passion for Bharatanatyam, Eswary traveled to India to undergo rigorous training in the Gurukulam tradition under the tutelage of the legendary Padmashri Guru Adyar K. Lakshman, where she completed her Arangetram and subsequent recitals in Chennai. Her advanced training continued with illustrious stalwarts Padmabhushan Sri V. P. Dhananjayan and Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan, enriching her understanding of technique, expression, and tradition.
Eswary also received specialized training in Nattuvangam and rhythmic intricacies from Mridangam Vidwan Shri RamShankar Babu, adding depth to her choreographic and performance vocabulary.
With over two decades of experience, Eswary has worn many hats in the world of Bharatanatyam—as a devoted student, inspiring teacher, dynamic choreographer, and acclaimed performer.
In 2013, she founded Tatya Performing Arts, a school committed to the preservation and propagation of traditional Bharatanatyam. After flourishing in Missouri for several years, Tatya Performing Arts moved to McKinney, Texas in April 2022, where Eswary continues to serve the local community with dedication and excellence.
Under her guidance, many of Eswary’s students have successfully completed their Arangetrams and performed across the United States, garnering accolades and honors, including the prestigious “Natya Idol” award at a national dance competition in St. Louis, Missouri.
Beyond performances, Eswary has organized numerous workshops and fundraising events in collaboration with various organizations, using the power of art to support humanitarian causes. Her school hosts an annual showcase that celebrates each student’s individual strengths and achievements. At Tatya, traditional Bharatanatyam training is offered alongside Nattuvangam instruction, encouraging a well-rounded approach to the art form.
In recognition of her dedication to cultural preservation, Eswary was honored by the Missouri State Folk Arts Council with a prestigious grant under the Master Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (TAAP).
Eswary continually refines her craft by attending workshops with eminent Gurus such as Kalaimamani Surya Narayanamurthi, Dr. S. Divya Sena, and Kalaimamani Priyadarshini Govind.
